Character Info

Character's Name: Hans Humpty
Character's Canon: Rokka: Braves of the Six Flowers
Character's Age: "Not much older or younger than 18" so I'll be playing him as 18
Canon Point: Post Vol. 2 of the light novel
Background/History: Here!

Strengths:

Above everything Hans is undoubtedly clever, with his quick-thinking and good judgement being relied upon by his companions numerous times throughout the series. His background as an assassin provides him with the experience needed to analyze a situation, plan for it accordingly, and adjust the plan to better suit his needs in the moment. He is also very quick to learn and to adapt, which allows him to read and predict movements. This allows him to predict even strikes of lightning used against him by a particularly powerful fiend--while residual sparks were unavoidable, not a single strike managed to land.

Hans is also extremely rational even in extreme situations. His ability to see logic without emotional bias is what allows him to make such sound judgement calls, all for the sake of the end goal. The most blatant example of this is when Hans is killed by someone he had, up until then, tentatively considered an ally. After he was brought back to life, rather than demand justice of his killer, he was able to acknowledge that they were still necessary to the mission and was willing to more or less brush it under the rug (with a simple warning that his lenience wouldn't be shown a second time). He's very much mind over matter, and often ends up as the voice of reason among his peers because of it.

Because Hans has lived a life without luxury, he is extremely resourceful. Given a hundred items to arm himself with, Hans is the type to pick only what is strictly necessary and make the absolute most out of it. A bit of wire and some wooden planks becomes a sound lure; some rags and thread become functional (if not very stylish) clothing. Given only the bare minimum and his creativity, Hans is able to create or improvise whatever is best suited for his needs--even with extremely little time to plan or prepare, for that matter.

Weaknesses:

Despite being assigned as a protector of the world--and as part of a team, at that--Hans is often the more ruthless of the group. While he's generally fine with playing nice and keeping the peace, he undoubtedly prefers a more chaotic approach to life, and while he does exercise some fair amount of caution, he still claims that more danger means more fun. This extends to other aspects of him as well, such as how he would much rather fight someone to determine who is strongest than befriend them (even if they're someone he doesn't mind the company of) or his merciless style of fighting.

Being clever is all well and good until it drives someone into a corner. In that respect, Hans' quick thinking can easily be proven a (potentially fatal) flaw, in that his ability to analyze situations drives him to occasionally overanalyze, making him prone to overthinking. While he excels in complex situations, place an answer right in front of him and he's likely to ignore it in favor of figuring the drawbacks to accepting something so simple. This can even lead him to inaction, leaving openings for his opponents. For example: when a fellow Brave presents him with evidence that they're an ally by stripping themselves of any hidden weapons, Hans refuses to engage them further--instead, he freezes, trying to determine where the trump card is hidden. It ends up being the very sword his opponent held in their hand, forgotten for sake of its simplicity; if they had been a true enemy, Hans would have ended up badly wounded, or even dead.

Independence is another double-edged sword, and while it does have its benefits, for Hans it has unfortunately caused him to be extremely untrusting. He wholly believes that anyone can become an enemy at any given point. This causes him to not only come off as extremely cold and distant at times, but also potentially outright heartless. He often tests those he considers his allies, to determine whether he truly can trust them or not, even when said tests involve potential harm to the person unknowingly involved in it. If their life is at risk, it's not uncommon for him to wait until the last possible moment to save them. And, on that note, he rarely (if ever) discusses his plans beforehand with others unless he needs them to know of their involvement, preferring to trust only himself to do something if at all possible.

Powers/Abilities:

  • Skilled Assassin: Hans excels in speed, stealth, and close-quarters combat. He fights using dual blades as a comfortable extension of himself. He's able to perform feats of inhuman agility, utilizing everything from speed, strength, reflexes, balance, and flexibility. He can even twist himself in midair, much like a cat might. Hans is also a lot stronger than the average human--his arms especially. He is able to not only walk on his knuckles (so he can still hold his weapons, of course) as comfortably as his feet, but he can spin on them, as well as propel himself well into the air. He can even gouge his swords well into the trunks of trees, use them as quick handholds, and shove off with little to no resistance.
  • Incredible Stamina: His stamina is... wild, honestly. He's been known to fight and run for hours on end without feeling even the slightest bit tired. He might break a sweat, but the chances of outrunning him or outlasting him in a fight are extraordinarily slim.
  • Illusory Ability: He's able to deceive his opponents by using what could be considered a near-illusory method. By cutting someone in a "certain way" (he approaches them with a tangible intent to kill, and moves with the intent to follow), he can cause someone to believe that he's caused significant or even fatal damage to them--usually just long enough for him to stand back and catch their expression. The effectiveness of the trick obviously depends on his opponent as well as circumstance, but he claims people are most honest in the moments before their death and will resort to this as a means of judging someone's true intentions.
  • A Cat's Senses: Hans' senses are especially acute for a human's. He's able to skillfully maneuver even unfamiliar terrain with his eyes closed and only his hearing to go by. He's also able to pick up on extremely subtle audible and visual cues, as per necessity of avoiding traps as an assassin.

Other Noteworthy Traits:

  • Since he's an assassin, he's skilled with lockpicking and trap disabling!
  • His tail is supposedly only attached to his clothing, but given that it's capable of movement and he actively uses it as a means of balancing himself and repositioning in midair... it might as well just be real.
  • On the lefthand side of his chest, just over his heart, is the Crest of the Six Flowers, a mark that designates Hans as one of the six Braves. It has a very faint pinkish glow. If a fellow Brave dies, the Crest will lose one of its petals; if they're revived, it'll come back as if nothing happened.
  • Despite being an assassin, Hans holds a policy to only kill if it pays. He's hardly a pacifist by any definition, but unless killing someone or something directly benefits him (IE money, self-preservation, or to complete a goal), he'll opt for non-lethal means of subduing opponents.
  • Unfortunately, Because Hans trained himself by mimicking the style of cats, he views them as teachers of sorts, and models his mannerisms and speech after them as well. Most things he says are accompanied by some form of meow. Sorry.

[ OPTIONAL ] World Aspect: Kyouma/Fiends! Fiends are demons whose sole purpose is to kill humans, so really they'd fit right in here. 70% are only as intelligent as an average beast, while the remaining 30% are capable of (accented and distorted, but understandable) speech. As far as anatomy goes, each fiend has a core, which is effectively their lifesource, surrounded by a physical body which they can adapt and evolve to their whims over time. This allows them to shift in simple ways, such as quickly growing new limbs or reforming existing ones, or with more time, honing special abilities, such as transformation, camouflage, or enhanced strength. The only way to kill a fiend is to destroy its core--otherwise, given enough time, its physical body will regenerate.
